Fun Book for Foodies: WHAT THE GREAT ATE

“What the Great Ate: A Curious History of Food and Fame” offers tales of astronaut John Young smuggling a corned beef sandwich into space, dictator Saddam Hussein demanding Raisin Bran Crunch instead of Froot Loops, actress Angelina Jolie munching on cockroaches, and author Vladimir Nabokov eating butterflies.

Brothers Matthew and Mark Jacobs’ website - whatthegreatate.org - has more amazing food facts, ways to order the book online, and a frequently updated list of promotional events.

“What the Great Ate” – published by Three Rivers Press, the paperback division of Random House – is listed by Publishers Weekly as one of 13 “Books on Foodies’ Beach Blankets” this summer.
