This Is My Country

Irving Berlin

This is my country, Land of my birth /
This is my country, Grandest on earth /
I pledge thee my allegiance, America, the bold /
For this is my country to have and to hold.

This is my country, Land of my choice /
This is my country, Hear my proud voice /
I pledge thee my allegiance, America, the bold /
For this is my country to have and to hold.

  3. My favorite campaign slogan was and still is "Obamanos" here in NM where "Vamanos" is a common word.

  5. KB, your lyric selection is perfect for today. I am actually surprised at how proud I am of the American People, how proud I feel to be an American, and how hopeful I am that now when I hear the President of the United States speak, I’m not going to wince, grimace, groan or cringe in embarrassment. jls

  6. Somewhere in the last 8 years I had lost all traces of patriotism I had left. I eliminated every copy of "Proud to Be An American" from my song collections. Traveling abroad recently, one fella said to me, "We don't see many Americans here. Maybe they're afraid to travel." Since Nov. 4, I've signed up for volunteer work for two more organizations at Barack's suggestion. "I cannot do this work alone." Yes, maybe it's time to blow the dust off my "patriotic songs" folder.
