Gag, I'm it

They've tagged me twice in the last week, those taggers who make you answer questionnaires. I'd ignore them, but they know where I live. (Hi, Doni. Hi, Greg.)

6 random things about me

1. I can whistle like a freight train shrieking through town at midnight. It's how I called my kids (and the dog) home for supper when I didn't know where in the neighborhood they were.

2. Sometimes I stand on my head a long time.

3. Once I danced with an astronaut, and not just any garden-variety space walker but one who had stepped foot on the moon. It was at a political fundraiser. I was 22. He was Sen. Harrison "Jack" Schmitt. He stepped on my toes.

4. I used to sing in a country-music band.

5. I have a sewing machine, and I know how to use it. I could run up anything from a hankie to a suit of armor if you needed it.

6. I like figuring out how to fix things like dishwashers, light fixtures, leaky waterworks, coffeemakers, computers, mp3 players and phones. Saves me a ton of money.

I tag the following people and they can answer in the comments:

Steve B.

  1. Thanks Kelly. NOT.
    OK I'll bite.

    1) I was the banjo player in a bluegrass band. We were the house band for a bar called "The Morgue" in Burbank, CA.

    2) I owned a leather shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the early 1970s. It was called Skin City. It was often mistaken as a porn shop, which made for some rather colorful, but confused, customers.

3)In the 1980s I was in Jakarta trying to board a ferry to Borneo. The ferry was overloaded so I was turned away. I later learned it sank. There were no survivors.

    4) I spent the day one-on-one with Tina Turner in West Hollywood. She was working on a dance routine for an upcoming Las Vegas show and I was replacing a section of the dance floor. Hey, it was good for me.

5)When I was 19 I fell through my parents' attic. I was barefoot and landed in a pile of glass milk bottles that nearly cut off my left foot. To this day I can't walk barefoot because of nerve damage.

6)When I was 20, The first piece of furniture I made was a coffee table built with a hammer and a sharpened screwdriver. My parents kept that table in their T.V. room for 25 years.

  2. Very interesting stuff, Ms. Kelly...

So, now I'm thinking that perhaps part of your smarts comes from the fact that you regularly allow all your marbles to settle back in their rightful place with this extended head sitting of yours.

Maybe more of us should follow suit!

  3. Bruce-
You gave me a hexagonal coffee table some years ago and said it was the first you ever made. I loved it, had it for 10+years and gave it to one of my kids. The same???
    Bruce Webb

  4. Only because you insist...
    1. I'm 6-foot-5, but my only position on the basketball team was "Injured."
    2. I love music, but cannot play a musical instrument well, though I have tried.
    3. I love foreigners, but cannot speak a foreign language well, though I have tried.
    4. It's been 11 years since I last wore a necktie.
    5. I first grew a beard when I was 22 years old, and I've had one ever since.
    6. I don't care what anybody says, I like palm trees.

  5. Hi Bruce and Martha,
Yep, that was me that made that little table so many years ago. Glad to see it has a good home.
