Properly raised children will write us perfect obituaries, like this one

Richard Pratt Prunty

PRUNTY--Richard Pratt, erudite, sesquipedalian, ebullient, chaetophorous, neo-luddite bibliophile --above all, beloved father, brother, and friend. We mourn the loss and celebrate the life of this scholarly, enthusiastic, bearded, polysyllabic-word-using, technology-doubting lover of books and knowledge. Pratt was a dedicated educator, an avid golfer, a political enthusiast, a committed social activist, an undiscriminating collector and a life-long Democrat. Raised on a farm in Oxford, West Virginia, he was educated at West Virginia University and the University of Massachusetts. He worked as a science teacher and later a guidance counselor in Enfield, Connecticut. For 30 years, he lived in the historic Hill-McKnight neighborhood of Springfield, MA. He passed away at age 71 in New York on May 6, 2008, surrounded by his children. Left to look up their own words are Jennifer Prunty (NYC), Meeghan Prunty Edelstein and Steve Edelstein (New York), Adam Prunty (Massachusetts) and Jason Prunty (Oregon); his grandchildren Julian Thomas, Eliza Ruby, Gabriel Pratt, and Julia Rose; and his brothers and sisters in West Virginia and Ohio.

  1. This obit is far from perfect. It is missing Richard's parents and wife's (all desceased) names as well as his birthdate.
