Please tell me their names. They're everywhere. Not knowing is driving me crazy. Thank you.

  1. The trees look like Chinese trees of heaven. Yes, they grow like weeds around here. I'm philosophically opposed to chemical herbicides, but in my experience round up is the only way go rid of them.

Can't speak to the little purple flowers, but they're gems, que no?

  2. ¡Claro que sí! The purple ones are darling, even if they do overrun everything. Thanks for the other reference, too, Bruce.

  3. The purple ones are purple vetch (AKA cow peas).

  4. Ah, cow peas. Maybe I'll stop ripping it out of the ground everywhere I find it...
    Thanks, Barbara.

  5. I should add that I personally never Round-Up'd a tree of heaven. I laboriously sawed away each of about a dozen young trees that were sprouting in the alley along my back fence.

When they sprouted right back the next spring, my neighbor escalated to chemical warfare. I was a little ticked to have my little organic Eden sullied, actually, but the trees never came back. And I can't complain about that.

Now about that English ivy ...
